The Sherman Inn is a unique and highly-rated historic property in Ogdensburg, originally a schoolhouse transformed into a charming inn. Guests consistently praise the warm hospitality of Jim and Donna, the spacious and comfortable rooms, and the inn’s fascinating history and quirky amenities like a gymnasium and library. It’s a memorable experience that feels far removed from everyday life, particularly appealing to families and those seeking a unique getaway.
Amazing experience!!! You will not go wrong staying here. The beds are very comfortable! I slept so well. The experience otherwise is also out of this world! You stay in a historical school room :) Less than hour from Ottawa and way cheaper too. It's the place to stay at if you're flying out of ODG!
I stayed here for a night and it was such a pleasant stay! From the moment I arrived I was greeted by Jim who was so kind and gave me a tour of the hotel. He was very passionate about the tour and work that has gone into this hotel and ensuring their guests have a great and one of a kind experience. The rooms are all different and are huge and have so much space. The staff was all very friendly as well. For breakfast they make you breakfast and it is such a lovely pleasant place to stay. Very close to the airport. Such a unique and great stay! Thank you for the hospitality and warm welcome !! :)
I stayed at the Sherman Inn on an impromptu overnight trip to Ogdensburg. Donna, one of the owners, met me with a warm smile and said I could check into my room early. She gave me a tour of the Inn, offered restaurant recommendations for the area and made sure I felt right at home. The rooms are huge, clean and very cool! Donna also invited me to an evening watch party at the Inn with food/drinks since it was being figured on television (so cool)! In the morning, Jim served us a delicious breakfast which just felt over and beyond. I couldn’t recommend staying here enough! Thank you Donna and Jim for such an incredible stay!
The Sherman Inn Hotel in Ogdensburg is an exceptional place where history and comfort meet in a genuinely rare way. What makes it truly fascinating is its past: the building originally served as a school, later taken over by the government, after which it remained inaccessible for years. Today, it has been brought back to life with remarkable care and respect for its story. The couple who runs the inn are outstanding hosts, attentive, warm, and deeply invested in making every guest feel personally cared for rather than simply accommodated. The hotel itself is beautiful, calm, and impeccably maintained, but the rooms are the real highlight: they feel paradisiacal, spacious, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed, creating an atmosphere that feels far removed from everyday life. An added and unexpected highlight is the large playroom housed in the former gymnasium, where guests can play basketball, soccer, or almost any sport they want, reinforcing the building’s school heritage while making the stay even more unique and enjoyable. Staying at the Sherman Inn is not just booking a room; it is experiencing a piece of Ogdensburg’s history transformed into a refined, welcoming, and unforgettable stay.
I was surprised by my partner with an impromptu birthday trip and overnight stay here in Ogdensberg - I was absolutely blown away by the great service, decor, food, and personalized care the owners put into making this a memorable experience for every guest. I particularly enjoyed the eclectic theme and how much effort was made to make our stay as comfortable as possible; the rooms were huge and the home cooked breakfast was delicious! We will absolutely try staying here again the next time we're traveling through the area.
Wonderful stay. This B&B is a former elementary school. Huge and comfortable rooms. Our room was decorated for Christmas which we loved. Cozy sitting area. Super comfortable beds. Gracious hosts. We loved the served breakfast in the parlor area. Owners Jim and Donna gave us a tour and shared history of the school and Ogdensburg area. Our biggest regret was that we only had one night to stay! We hope to be back to the area. Highly recommend this inn!
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Sherman Inn. I was excited to visit as I taught there in 2013. My husband was excited for a unique historical stay. The hosts were beyond thoughtful and sweet. We loved having a tour of the building and a delicious breakfast in the morning. My husband said it was the most comfortable mattress he's slept on at a hotel and the rooms are so spacious. We unfortunately didn’t have time to enjoy the firepit. The Halloween and fall decorations were gorgeous, I'd love to see the inn decorated for Christmas. Or maybe we will come back in the summer for the pool! We had a great stay and it was also a great price!
I cannot say enough about our stay at the Sherman Inn. Staying with Jim and Donna was like spending the weekend visiting a favorite uncle and aunt. The rooms were impeccable and named after US Presidents that had visited Ogdensburg. The original intent was to stay for one night, but since my wife and I loved the room, building and breakfast so much that we decided to stay an additional night in President Teddy's room. Since I have been back home, my wife and I constantly remark about how much we miss the Inn and that we need to drop everything around us , and drive across the intimidating - crazy metal bridge to go back home and see 'Uncle Jim and Aunt Donna" See you all soon !
The location is great, especially if you are coming to town from Canada to take the SAT. The hosts are friendly and the rooms are nicely decorated, though the rooms are so large they could provide king beds instead queens. The breakfast is delicious and the old school is full of history. We had a great stay!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Sherman Inn in Ogdensburg, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality by the hosts, Jim and Donna, who went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and memorable. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and impeccably clean. I loved the unique presidential-themed design—it added such a charming and historical touch to the experience. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I had one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a long time. Breakfast each morning was a highlight! The food was freshly prepared, delicious, and clearly made with care. The cozy kitchen and library spaces also made the inn feel like a home away from home. The location is perfect—close to local attractions like the St. Lawrence River and downtown Ogdensburg. They also offer modern conveniences like free Wi-Fi, private baths, and even electric car charging. If you’re looking for a place that combines comfort, history, and exceptional service, I can’t recommend The Sherman Inn enough. It’s truly a hidden gem in Ogdensburg!
