Stone Fence Lodging offers a riverside location with potential charm, highlighted by friendly staff and pet-friendly accommodations. However, recent reviews indicate inconsistent experiences with cleanliness, breakfast quality, and room maintenance, alongside some logistical challenges related to its remote setting and dated facilities.
It has it's quirks, but it is privately owned. Some rooms look like they were built but builders with hangovers., Nice man runs it and it's a great property. Just ask for what you need. If it can be done, it will.
Our family had a great stay, so nice to have pet friendly accommodations. Beautiful location and great service. Look forward to going back during the summer season.
The location is beautiful. We stayed during winter so obviously not much to do. However the customer service was awful. The rooms themselves worse. Support beam in room is cracked , shower had insulation coming out of it. Wasn't clean very dusty. No where on website did it say during winter no breakfast or anything else . We booked it because breakfast was supposed to be included. Really don't care for the fact we are charged rates for during season when there is so much to do. Nothing to do , no breakfast and we get charged regular price. Definitely do not recommend. Beds and pillows are awful and very uncomfortable
Absolutely Loved this location! On the River, in a storm and Ice!! ? OMG!! We were stuck, late, flummoxed, but when we called the owner Bruce took us and the situation in hand. Gave us, hands down, the BEST SERVICE, any one could ask for on the open road! Made sure we got into the room (with a SPECTACULAR and warming view) even offered to go BUY provisions for us since we were stuck! I FULLY intend to return in less dire straits! This location is immediate to the International Crossing and I can only imagine how gorgeous it is in the fall with NO blizzard conditions! I look forward to a longer, more relaxed stay, with an out of this world host! Thank you Bruce for helping two wayward women in a storm ??
Great location and very big property that very poorly managed! Despite the good potential, it fails at every level. Out of half empty hotel, despite the request for a water view, we were offered a room with one window overlooking the parking lot. Not very welcoming. The restaurant on the property has very limited choices of sandwiches and burgers. No salads, no main dishes. The breakfast in the morning ( despite the properly equipped kitchen that we saw through the open door) was very unpleasant. Old, old, old thin coffee, that was sitting there forever. It has a film floating on the top. Couple of cereals choices, bread in the store packaging. They even did not bother to take a long danish out of the grocery store package (the price tag was still on, see for yourself). The breakfast is served on paper plates, and if you want to find a knife, even the plastic one, you will not find one. The above mentioned danish we were trying to cut with the serving tongs, while the staff was just watching us doing so. We ended up finishing breakfast in the room with our own fruits and greek yogurt. It could be a nice place in someone's caring hands. We will NOT return there and NOT suggesting to our friends!
I stayed here on a recent trip to visit friends in Canada. On the outskirts of Ogdensburg right off 37, the bridge to Canada is just a few minutes down the road. I stayed in building 5 right on the water and was only there in the morning and evening, but location and view of the river made every minute very enjoyable. They have plenty of different areas to sit riverside including a pavillion out over the water. Morning coffee sitting over the water watching the ducks float by and the boats on the water was so relaxing. The room was clean, had a little sitting area, kitchen sink, microwave, and a good size fridge. It was quiet, I slept comfortably, but a highlight for me was a Keurig in the room and supplied pods. Staff was very friendly, housekeeping was friendly, helpful & non invasive. I'm looking forward to visiting again!
Quaint little older motel. Very clean but older only double beds. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Was surprised that they had a complimentary Continental hot breakfast which was very good Very noisy early morning.
The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable ( not too firm, but not too soft). The breakfast was excellent, and the staff very helpful. I will definitely be back.
I had a great stay here during a recent road trip. The staff was very helpful by phone helping arrange an accessible and convenient room and ensuring we knew where to go for our late check-in. There was a small lip of an inch or two to get into the hotel room, but otherwise everything was a flat surface which helped with mobility. The hotel is pet friendly, with lots of easy to access green spaces for walking my dog. Our room had a porch with a lovely view of the river. The hotel had some signs of age, but was clearly well-cared for with perfectly clean and cozy rooms and daisies blooming outside the dining room entrance.
We spent 3 nights here, excellent room and a waterfront gazebo with a 20 mile view up and down the St Lawrence River. Good coffee to go along with a tasty hot breakfast every morning. We also stayed here in 2021.
