Although often overshadowed by Boldt Castle, Singer Castle offers a much more intimate and smaller scale experience in the Thousand Islands. Singer Castle feels like an actual home that a family could live in, unlike larger examples of mansions in the area. The castle is based off of a Scottish castle in the novel Woodstock. Compared to Boldt, Singer offers a much greater medieval castle experience. The castle is exclusively a guided experience and the tour keeps moving at a pace well enough to see everything but doesn't waste time. Highly recommend taking the Uncle Sam boat tour to get to the island, with the entire journey taking around 3 hours which felt like an appropriate amount of time.

Singer Castle on Dark Island is absolutely a destination worth cruising to! This beautiful and slightly creepy castle, once home to the family behind the Singer Sewing Machine Company, is filled with fascinating history, hidden passageways, and incredible craftsmanship. The guided tour is a must to really get to see all the castle has to offer. Our tour guide was fantastic and clearly loved her job. One of the highlights was watching her reveal a secret passage by creating a spark with a coin, it was so fun to watch. I was especially fascinated by the room showcasing early inventions. It featured a stove that also functioned as a refrigerator and an early version of a sauna that, while innovative, clearly wasn't quite perfected yet. The Singer family was truly ahead of their time. I also loved wandering the beautiful grounds and overlooking stunning views of the St. Lawrence River. Singer Castle hosts weddings and special events, making it an unforgettable setting for any occasion. This visit was one of my favorite things to do in the Thousand Islands. It's a unique blend of history, mystery, and breathtaking scenery that makes for an unforgettable day trip.

The guided tour was amazing! We had Declan and he really knew his stuff! You can also tell that he really enjoys his job! It was a great day for the tour too!

What a cool, dark, and mysterious castle. I enjoyed learning about the Bourne family and Dark Island. It is a unique architectural masterpiece inspired by Sir Walter Scott's Woodstock. It is amazing that all of its contents are original furnishings. Look carefully for all the hidden passages. If your brave enough- stay the night!

Singer castle is definitely worth a look see but it's a shame to see it falling into disrepair and not being cared for like it used to be in the past. lots of dirt lots of cob webs. It's not getting the attention it deserves. The history is very interesting and the two castle tour is a nice tour on Sam's. This is a guided tour.You cannot go off on your own and you cannot bring anything except a bottle with the cap water to the grounds. There are. Also restrooms and a small gift shop on the grounds. It's cool to see all the special secret passageways woven into the castle.

We experienced the overnight stay. Other than the caretaker, the castle is all yours to explore. The dinner was excellent and although the cost is expensive ($1k), it is well worth the experience and memories. You receive a private tour of the castle which is very long. If we were to do it again, I would recommend staying two nights. You have the castle to yourself from evening to early morning. The views are unbelievable. In addition, I would recommend fall versus summer. It was over 90 degrees with no wind or a/c.

We had a great guided tour of Singer Castle last weekend. Marion was our very knowledgeable guide and she was great! This is a beautiful castle and grounds. We took Uncle Sam's to the island and overall it was an A+ experience!

Did the 2-castle tour and saw Boldt Castle before this. Crazy that this is the only "castle" in the area that was 100% completed and lived in. And has been privately owned and lived in since the day it was built. I am SO jealous of the caretaker, what I wouldn't give to live in a castle and have the run of all the secret passages, and just get to be a weird hermit all by myself. Much less crowded than Boldt Castle, as it is almost an hour downriver. Must take a guided tour, but they're quick and information and generally lovely people. No customs like at Boldt, even though this one is also in the US. Definitely recommended, if you see one castle, you have to see them both.

Cool island castle. There is a one hour paid tour that takes you through the main parts of the battle and gives you its history abs a glimpse into the life of the family that owned it. The castle is also absorbed for weddings and overnight stays.

Viewing this castle requires being part of a tour. There are a lot of stairs and it's very fast paced. Tour guide was informative and the castle was stunning with unique history. Uncle Sam's boat tours out of Alex. Bay does a great tour to the island.
